Novo Nordisk A/SOral Wegovy captures 90% of US oral obesity market with 5M prescriptions, boosting GLP-1 sales expectations.

Novo Nordisk raised its full-year 2026 outlook following a better-than-expected start to the year, reporting second-quarter adjusted sales of DKK 78.5 billion and 7% growth at constant exchange rates. The company now expects adjusted sales and operating-profit growth of between 0% and negative 6% at constant exchange rates, reflecting stronger GLP-1 sales expectations but also intensifying US competition, reduced Medicaid coverage, and lower realized prices. Oral Wegovy surpassed 5 million total prescriptions and captured about 90% of the US oral obesity-drug market, with roughly 80% of users new to GLP-1 treatments, while international obesity sales rose 37%. Adjusted gross margin fell to 78.2% from 82.7% a year earlier, driven by lower realized prices, a one-time manufacturing-capacity cost of about DKK 3 billion, and negative currency effects. The ZEUS cardiovascular trial of ziltivekimab failed to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events, though CagriSema remains on track for a potential US launch in 2027.
