NVIDIA CorporationTexas scrutiny and grid connection freeze could reduce projected data-center demand for Nvidia.

Nvidia slipped about 1.4% to $217.76 on Tuesday morning as Texas began separating real data-center projects from grid paperwork, with electricity requests across parts of the United States now exceeding 700 gigawatts—more than ten times estimated current data-center consumption. Texas has frozen new grid connections while officials audit developers, and utilities in other markets are demanding cash upfront or proof of site control. Despite the scrutiny, Nvidia's near-term performance remains strong, with second-quarter revenue of $96.2 billion, including $89 billion from data centers, and guidance for the next quarter of approximately $108 billion. The 700-gigawatt pipeline represents future expectations, and removing fantasy projects could provide a clearer view of genuine AI demand. However, if too much projected capacity vanishes, Nvidia's $5.3 trillion valuation could face a tougher reality check.
