PayPal Holdings IncPayPal Ventures winding down as part of restructuring under new CEO, indicating strategic shift and potential cost savings but also disruption.

PayPal Ventures is winding down operations as part of a broader restructuring under new CEO Enrique Lores. A company spokesperson confirmed the pause in new investment activity, stating the firm is exploring strategic options for its corporate venture arm, which was founded in 2016 and has raised $850 million across three funds. The decision follows the departure of former CEO Alex Chriss, who was replaced by Lores in February after the board said Chriss failed to keep pace with industry changes. The PayPal Venture news also comes after the company reached a settlement in May with the Justice Department over the creation of an investment program back in 2020 that targeted Black and minority-owned businesses, under which PayPal agreed to waive processing fees for $1 billion of transactions, valued at about $30 million. PayPal is also exploring secondary sales to offload some of its venture holdings and has hired Jefferies to assist with that process.
