Pfizer IncCEO touts strong balance sheet for transformative acquisitions, signaling financial strength and deal capacity.
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla says the company has a very big balance sheet and can pursue transformative acquisitions if needed. The drugmaker could deepen its weight loss portfolio by acquiring Kailera Therapeutics, which recently went public and has a market cap of $2.7 billion. Kailera's lead candidate ribupatide is a dual GLP-1 and GIP agonist, and the company is also developing an oral version and a triple-hormone therapy. Adding these assets would give Pfizer a more differentiated pipeline in the fast-growing anti-obesity market. Pfizer already expanded in this area with its up to $10 billion acquisition of Metsera last year.
