Rio Tinto has agreed to acquire the Aurukun bauxite project in Australia's northeast from Glencore and Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd., according to a statement from the global miner. The acquisition price is undisclosed and remains subject to relevant Queensland Government and other Australian regulatory approvals. Under the plans advanced by Glencore and Mitsubishi, the project would produce up to 15 million tonnes per annum of run-of-mine bauxite ore, which would equate to up to 8 million dry tonnes per annum of product bauxite for export.
