Samsung Electronics has developed the industry's first Universal Flash Storage 5.0 solution, achieving a record sequential read speed of up to 10.8 gigabytes per second. The new memory delivers sequential write speeds of up to 9.5 gigabytes per second, more than double the performance of the previous UFS 4.1 standard, while improving power efficiency by over 40 percent through clock gating and multi-voltage technologies. Packaged in an ultra-compact 7.5 by 13 by 0.9 millimeter form factor that is 16.7 percent smaller than its predecessor, the solution targets on-device AI applications across flagship smartphones, extended reality headsets, and AI wearables. Samsung plans to begin mass production in the fourth quarter of this year with capacities up to one terabyte.
