MicroStrategy IncorporatedSaylor's cryptic post and four-week pause in Bitcoin purchases spark speculation about future capital allocation, but no concrete action is announced.

Michael Saylor, founder of Strategy, posted on X saying "We need a new color now" alongside a chart of the company's Bitcoin purchases, after Strategy went four consecutive weeks without buying any additional Bitcoin. This has sparked speculation among investors about whether the company is about to buy more, sell, or announce something else. Strategy currently holds a total of 843,775 Bitcoin, worth approximately 54.4 billion dollars, which is about 9.3 billion dollars below the actual investment cost, with an average cost of 75,476 dollars per coin. The most recent purchase occurred between June 15 and 21, totaling 520 Bitcoin worth about 34.9 million dollars. Since then, four consecutive Monday filings have reported no additional purchases. Saylor has previously used color references to signal transaction types. For example, in late November he posted the question "What if we start adding green dots?" before announcing a purchase of 130 Bitcoin, and on January 4 he posted "Orange or green?" regarding capital allocation decisions. Strategy adopted a new capital use framework in late June, opening new options for cash deployment, including a one-billion-dollar digital credit securities repurchase program, a one-billion-dollar share buyback program, and a 1.25-billion-dollar BTC Monetization program that allows the company to sell Bitcoin. On July 23, Strategy revised its mNAV calculation definition, making previous figures not directly comparable to the new ones. Historically, Saylor's Sunday posts were often followed by purchase disclosures the next Monday, but this link has weakened. The June 28 post stating "We need more charts now" was followed by the announcement of the new capital framework instead of a purchase, while the July 5 post was followed by the disclosure of the largest Bitcoin sale in the company's history. Strategy is scheduled to report second-quarter earnings after the market closes on Thursday, July 30, which may reveal the company's true direction this time around.
