Space Exploration Technologies Corp. Class A Common StockSpaceX is overhauling its data center buildout, adding backup/cooling systems and testing before operations, which could slow expansion and hinder revenue growth.

SpaceX is altering how it builds out its data centers, a change that could slow its expansion and hinder revenue growth, The Information reported. The company's data center team is now focused on adding backup systems and cooling and thoroughly testing systems before data centers become operational, whereas those systems were previously added after operations began, according to two people familiar with the matter. SpaceX is also looking at redesigning portions of existing data centers. The move follows an earlier reorganization of the team responsible for its AI data centers, in which managers from its rocket and Starlink operations were installed after engineering concerns and reliability problems emerged, and an outage at one of its data centers earlier this month. SpaceX currently operates the Colossus data centers in Tennessee and Mississippi, with Colossus 1 opened in July 2024 and work on Colossus 2 started in March 2025, and it has rented out computing capacity to Anthropic, Google, and Reflection. Goldman Sachs said in June that it expects SpaceX's AI-related revenue to jump 100 times, going to $322B by 2030 from $3.2B in 2025; SpaceX's revenue in 2025 was $18.7B, with the vast majority coming from Starlink.
