Stocks climbed today, with the Dow Jones Industrials reaching a new all-time high, driven by a surge in chipmakers after Micron Technology's blowout forecast. Micron is up more than 11% after forecasting fourth-quarter revenue of 50 billion dollars, well above the consensus of 43.24 billion dollars. Qualcomm is up more than 4% after forecasting annual sales of more than 15 billion dollars from artificial intelligence components for data centers by fiscal 2029. Gains were also supported by stronger-than-expected US economic data, including an upward revision to first-quarter GDP, a larger-than-expected drop in weekly jobless claims, and robust personal spending and income figures. However, the S&P 500 briefly turned lower as Apple fell more than 5% after raising prices on several products to offset memory chip shortages, and the Magnificent Seven technology stocks broadly weakened. Falling crude oil prices, with WTI crude hitting a four-month low, further boosted market sentiment.
