Surrozen IncPlans for IND and Phase 1b/2a trial for SZN-8141, plus PTAB denial strengthening IP.

Surrozen announced plans to submit an Investigational New Drug application for its lead ophthalmology candidate SZN-8141 by the end of the third quarter of 2026 and to initiate the DUET Phase 1b/2a study in diabetic macular edema patients by year-end 2026, with initial data expected in the second half of 2027. The U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board denied institution of a post-grant review petition challenging Surrozen’s patent, reinforcing its intellectual property position. The company reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $50.2 million, including non-cash gains of $59.6 million from changes in fair value of tranche and warrant liabilities, compared to net income of $39.7 million in the same period of 2025. Collaboration and license revenue was $5.0 million, attributable to a milestone achieved under a collaboration agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim, while research and development expenses rose to $8.5 million from $6.0 million a year earlier. Cash and cash equivalents stood at $102.0 million as of June 30, 2026.
