Taiwan's economy expanded 13.72% in the first half of 2026, the fastest growth rate since 1976, driven by AI chip exports and strong business investment. In the second quarter alone, GDP grew 12.92%, beating economists' forecast of 10.5%. Private consumption rose 5.88%, accelerating for a fourth straight quarter, and total investment increased 15.14%, the highest since early 2025. TSMC, the world's largest chipmaker and a key supplier to Nvidia and Apple, has raised its 2026 investment plan to meet AI chip demand, including a project in Arizona worth around 265 billion dollars. UBS has lifted its 2026 GDP forecast for Taiwan to 11% from 9.9%.
