Tesla sales in Britain have rebounded sharply, rising 57.7% year-on-year to become the second bestselling brand after Volkswagen, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. The Model 3 and Model Y were the top two selling vehicles in the UK last month, as a previous backlash against Elon Musk over his work for Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency fades. The boost also comes as more drivers switch to electric vehicles amid high petrol prices, with battery electric cars reaching a record 30% market share in June. However, this remains below the 33% required by the government's zero-emission vehicle mandate, prompting SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes to call for reform to protect manufacturing and jobs. Including hybrids, electrified models accounted for 56.5% of sales in June, while Chinese brands BYD, MG, and Jaecoo also posted sharp gains.
