Binance Research, the research arm of crypto exchange Binance, published a report on September 11 stating that monthly trading volume in tokenized stocks reached 7.9 billion dollars in August, or about 1.185 trillion yen. That marks a more than 33-fold increase over seven months from 237 million dollars in January, and it is the first time monthly trading volume has surpassed 1 trillion yen. The market capitalization of stock tokens in circulation also rose from 965 million dollars at the start of the year to about 4 billion dollars as of September 9. Trading volume is concentrated in services with existing customer bases: Binance's stock token BStocks and Robinhood accounted for 82.3% of the research coverage in August, up from 0.8% in June, and reached 87.8% month-to-date through September 9. Use in decentralized finance is also advancing, including borrowing funds against stock tokens as collateral, with assets under custody in DeFi rising from 21.6 million dollars at the start of the year to 289.1 million dollars on September 9. Binance Research notes that market competition is shifting from token issuance toward circulation and utilization.
