Alphabet Inc Class CTrump announces Section 301 investigation and threatens tariffs after EU fined Google 890 million euros.
President Donald Trump has announced a Section 301 trade investigation into the European Union in retaliation for penalties imposed on US technology companies, saying it is likely to lead to major import tariffs on goods from all 27 member states. Trump accused the EU of ripping off American firms after the European Commission fined Google roughly 890 million euros for allegedly failing to comply with the Digital Markets Act, and stressed that the penalties the EU previously imposed on Apple, Meta and Amazon will not happen again under his administration. The European Commission explained that the Google penalty resulted from a finding that it failed to meet the requirements of a law designed to prevent abuse of market dominance.
