The University of Maryland, Baltimore County Police Department has purchased BolaWrap devices and non-lethal response training from Wrap Technologies as part of an initial deployment of non-lethal capabilities for campus safety and security. Lt. Col. Ed McDermott of UMBC stated that BolaWrap provides a non-lethal capability that may help officers intervene earlier, reduce escalation, and create opportunities for safer resolutions. WRAP President Jared Novick noted that UMBC public safety officers will learn proper deployment, policy alignment, and scenario-based application of the BolaWrap device as part of a complete non-lethal system. The deployment supports UMBC’s commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, and WRAP believes it may further demonstrate the relevance of its Non-Lethal Response ecosystem beyond traditional municipal law enforcement into adjacent markets such as universities and healthcare systems.
