US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that all Iranian airlines will be barred from operating starting tomorrow, which falls on September 23, 2025, stating that if Iranian aircraft land, they will not be able to obtain fuel, nor will they be provided landing services or be allowed to sell tickets, otherwise they will be cut off from the dollar system. Bessent said on CNBC's Squawk Box that the United States is pressuring Iran to an unprecedented degree and is going after Iran's supporters around the world, such as through the use of banking sanctions. Last week, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against Russia's VTB Bank, which is under the control of the Russian government, as part of efforts to cut Iran off from the global economy by targeting Iran's business partners and financial backers.
