Microsoft Unveils Revamped Copilot, Nadella Says Trust Is Biggest Issue
Microsoft on Friday unveiled a revamped version of its Copilot software, combining its chat, coding, and agentic capabilities into a single package it calls Autopilot. The platform is designed as a one-stop shop for work needs such as preparing a pitch document or building a spreadsheet and then having AI reason over the data to surface insights users might miss. CEO Satya Nadella told Deirdre Bosa that trust will be the biggest issue for the company, asking whether users can really trust AI with all of their credentials when it performs autonomous activity and how they can feel in control, adding that in the enterprise this is everything. The new Copilot offers two billing options: standard per-user plans for general AI work and a pay-as-you-go offering for long-tail, multi-step agentic work, a combination Nadella said will prove especially beneficial as model makers and providers slowly reduce customer subsidies. Microsoft says Copilot will automatically route user prompts to the best available model from OpenAI and Anthropic, with manual model selection also available and additional options from other model makers to come; the per-seat option will carry token limits that most people will never hit, while those needing more can opt for usage-based billing.

Microsoft has launched a new version of its Copilot AI assistant that merges the consumer and workplace products into a single offering aimed at corporate customers, with three modes — chat, code, and autopilot — and roughly 30 million customers so far, CEO Satya Nadella told Yahoo Finance's Deirdre Bosa in an interview. Nadella said the autopilot mode, which connects to a user's apps, email and workflows and acts as a personal assistant, represents the next generation of enterprise automation and will roll out in the coming weeks, though he cautioned that token costs mean "once the subsidies stop for everybody" the business model must be justified by customer return on investment. On China, Nadella said it is in both countries' interests to agree on norms, including a direct notification channel between presidents in the event of a cybersecurity attack, following this week's Trump-Xi summit. Separately, Costco reported quarterly profit above Wall Street estimates with earnings per share of 695 cents, including 15 cents from $184 million in tariff refunds, while comparable sales rose 6.7%. Akamai announced a $12 billion computing deal with Anthropic, building on a $1.8 billion agreement earlier in the year, with warrants giving Anthropic the right to buy Series B shares at $113.33 each that convert into 7.7 million common shares. Tesla confirmed high-volume production of its Semi had begun at its Sparks, Nevada factory and announced a 2,500-truck order from a coalition of shipping companies including PepsiCo, which Fast Company called the largest US order for electric heavy-duty trucks.

Salesforce Q2 Earnings Beat, Fiscal 2027 Revenue Outlook Raised
Salesforce reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 non-GAAP earnings of $5.90 per share, up 102.7% year over year and beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 80.43%, while revenues rose 10.8% to $11.35 billion. The company raised its fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to $46.10-$46.40 billion from $45.90-$46.20 billion, a $200 million increase, or $300 million in constant currency, reflecting $100 million of organic growth and $200 million tied to the pending Contentful and Fin acquisitions, partly offset by a $100 million foreign-exchange headwind. Salesforce also lifted its fiscal 2027 non-GAAP earnings outlook to $16.67-$16.71 per share from $14.06-$14.12, with non-GAAP operating margin guidance unchanged at 34.3%. For the third quarter of fiscal 2027, the company expects revenues of $11.42-$11.50 billion, implying 11%-12% year-over-year growth, and non-GAAP earnings of $3.42-$3.44 per share. Agentforce and Data 360 ARR reached nearly $3.9 billion, up more than 210% year over year, and the company returned $364 million through dividends during the quarter while continuing its $25 billion accelerated share repurchase program.
