Global stock indexes tumbled on Friday as semiconductor shares plunged for a third straight day amid reduced bets on artificial intelligence, while oil prices climbed on escalating U.S.-Iran conflict. The Philadelphia semiconductor index fell more than 2%, now 23.5% below its June 22 record close, after Chinese AI startup Moonshot released Kimi K3, which it called the world's largest open-weight AI system with performance near Anthropic's frontier model. U.S. crude rose 2.47% to $80.90 a barrel and Brent gained 2.45% to $86.29 as the U.S. struck bridges and an airport in Iran and Tehran hit a power and desalination plant in Kuwait, with U.S. Marines boarding a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The Dow fell 0.19%, the S&P 500 lost 0.85%, and the Nasdaq dropped 1.62%, while MSCI's all-country world index declined 1.12% and Japan's Nikkei tumbled 4%. U.S. Treasury yields fell, with the 10-year note down 4.36 basis points to 4.525%, as markets priced out a July Fed rate hike, and spot gold rose 0.74% to $3,999.49 an ounce.
