Heavy-duty truck industry sees volume and profit gains in H1, with new energy penetration climbing to 33.7%

Driven by stronger trade-in policies and surging export demand, China's heavy-duty truck industry delivered higher volumes and profits in the first half. Sinotruk's semi-annual report released on August 27 showed first-half revenue of 38.41 billion yuan, up 46.82% year on year, and net profit attributable to the parent of 973 million yuan, up 45.48%. For the industry as a whole, cumulative heavy-duty truck sales reached 660,900 units in the first half of 2026, up 22.59% year on year. New energy heavy truck sales exceeded 140,000 units, reaching 140,021 units, a surge of 76.6%, lifting market penetration to 33.7%, up 11.3 percentage points from a year earlier. Leading companies stood out: FAW Jiefang expects first-half net profit to rise by 1,273.64% to 1,528.02% year on year, while Foton Motor's heavy truck segment sales rose 35.3% and overseas exports grew 38.9%. Industry participants believe the heavy-duty truck sector is entering a structural recovery, supported by the release of replacement demand for aging vehicles, strong overseas exports, and accelerating breakthroughs in new energy penetration.
