Google Faces Up to $10 Billion in Rival Lawsuits After EU Fine

Alphabet's Google is confronting a wave of private lawsuits that could total up to $10 billion in damages after European regulators fined the company a record $1 billion under the Digital Markets Act. The EU penalty found that Google prioritized its own services and blocked app developers from directing customers to cheaper payment options outside Google Play. Several cases are already underway, including a Berlin court awarding German comparison-shopping platform Idealo 465 million, Italy's Moltiply Group seeking 2.97 billion, and litigation groups in Amsterdam claiming more than $1 billion combined. Klarna-backed PriceRunner also secured a ruling of around $1.97 billion plus interest, though appeals may delay payment for years. Google dismissed the claims as baseless, accusing rivals of pursuing money rather than improving their products, while the legal pressure adds to roughly 10.4 billion euros in EU-led sanctions over the past decade.
