Shimizu Corporation announced on the 2nd that it has developed and put into practical use a tunnel face measurement system called "S-LiRT" that uses mobile LiDAR to measure and evaluate excavation accuracy in real time, aiming to improve the safety and productivity of mountain tunnel construction. The system consists of two LiDAR units installed on both sides of the tunnel and two rails on which they move, and is effective for mechanical excavation, acquiring absolute coordinates of the tunnel face shape while compensating for blind spots. The acquired coordinates are immediately converted into overbreak and underbreak amounts and displayed in color on a monitor in the operator's cab to assist the operator. The closing price on the 2nd was 2,396 yen, down 58 yen from the previous day.

NVIDIA announced that Japan’s physical AI leaders are building on its Cosmos, Isaac, Metropolis and Jetson platforms to accelerate intelligent machines across manufacturing, mobility, infrastructure and robotics. The company also introduced Cosmos 3 Edge, a 4-billion-parameter model for on-device vision reasoning and robot policy deployment on NVIDIA Jetson Thor platforms, and new Metropolis libraries that speed vision AI agent development by at least six times. Japan’s physical AI ecosystem leaders including AIRoA, FANUC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Kubota, NEC, SoftBank Corp., Sony Group Corporation and Yaskawa Electric intend to join the NVIDIA Cosmos Coalition to advance open world models. Fujitsu is exploring a collaborative control platform for physical AI with FANUC, Yaskawa Electric and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, while other Japanese manufacturers and physical AI leaders such as Enactic, Honda R&D, GROOVE X, Mitsui & Co, OMRON, Shimizu Corporation and Telexistence are building on NVIDIA’s physical AI stack.
