Space Solar Working Group to Be Established, Aiming to Build a Standards Framework

The China Solar Photovoltaic System Application Standardization Technical Committee plans to formally establish a Space Solar Working Group. Its main responsibilities include surveying the current status of domestic and international standards, technology, and industry demand in the space solar field, building a standards framework for the sector, and conducting technical discussions and research on key technologies such as extreme environment testing, reliability evaluation, in-orbit verification, and system integration. The group will also promote the standardization and industry-wide application of advanced technologies, testing methods, and innovative achievements. China plans to build satellite internet networks represented by Starnet and the G60 Qianfan Constellation, with the total number of networked satellites exceeding 30,000. This creates enormous demand for high-performance, low-cost solar cells. Future concepts of deploying AI computing clusters in low Earth orbit will also require substantial energy. Space solar power, with its nearly unlimited and stable solar energy, becomes a key solution to the energy consumption challenges of ground-based data centers. Institutions forecast that global space solar installed capacity will surge from 180 megawatts in 2026 to 90 gigawatts in 2035, with the corresponding market size potentially exceeding 1.2 trillion yuan. Related A-share concept stocks include Junda Co., Ltd. and Risen Energy Co., Ltd.
