At an event held by the Japan Security Token Association, the challenges financial institutions face when entering the digital asset business were organized into three areas: issuance, custody, and trading. As interest grows in the shift of crypto asset regulation to the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and the tokenization of stablecoins and real-world assets, Keinosuke Takemori of Digital Asset Markets presented a realistic strategy of combining existing solutions rather than building everything in-house, and starting with limited operations such as proprietary trading. For issuance, managing underlying assets and controlling circulation are essential, and the example of Mitsui & Co. Digital Commodities' Zipang Coin series was introduced, which has implemented whitelist-based transfer restrictions on the OP Mainnet. For custody, the focus was on internal controls for private keys and approval authority, with Kaito Sasaki of Fireblocks explaining MPC technology and integration with existing key management infrastructure via Key Link. For trading, the FIX connectivity between Intertrade's TIGER Trading Platform and Digital Asset Markets' Digital Asset Prime Service was demonstrated, presenting a path for securities firms to enter crypto asset proprietary trading by leveraging their existing systems.
