Nintendo extends gains on strong Q1 profit growth; Bandai Namco recovers above 5,000 yen

On August 7, the Tokyo stock market saw the Nikkei average extend its decline, ending the day down 76.55 yen at 65,606.71. Among gaming and entertainment stocks, Nintendo extended gains after the previous day's first-quarter results showed operating profit surged 150.5 percent year-on-year, a sharp increase that was well received. MegaChips rose for a seventh straight session after swinging to a profit in the first quarter and announcing a share buyback funded by an upward revision in gains from the sale of SiTime shares. Digital Hearts hit its daily limit up with proportional allocation following an announcement of a tender offer by Sandbox, a company wholly owned by Chairman Miyazawa.

MegaChips extended its gains and rose for a seventh straight session. The company reported a swing to a profit in its first-quarter results the previous day and announced it will conduct a share buyback of up to 1 million shares, equivalent to 7.1 percent of outstanding shares, for a maximum of 10 billion yen, funded by an upward revision in gains from the sale of SiTime shares. These factors were seen as positive.

Capcom hits limit up on strong earnings, Tsuburaya Fields HD extends streak of limit-up gains

On the Tokyo stock market on July 29, 66 out of 96 game and entertainment-related stocks rose. Capcom surged to its daily limit up after reporting a 54% increase in revenue and a 66% jump in operating profit for the first quarter, achieving substantial top- and bottom-line growth. Tsuburaya Fields Holdings hit its daily limit up for a second straight day, driven by upward revisions to its full-year consolidated earnings forecast and medium-term management plan. Alphapolis rose for a third consecutive day after announcing the launch of English-translated print editions of its official manga in North America and other regions. On the other hand, Megachips fell for a fifth straight day, as Mizuho Securities maintained a neutral rating on the stock despite raising its target price.
