JAL and ANA to cut fuel surcharges on Europe and US routes to around 50,000 yen for tickets issued in September and October

It was learned on the 12th that Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways are expected to lower their international fuel surcharges for tickets issued in September and October. For flights from Japan to North America and Europe, the surcharge will drop to between 50,000 and 55,000 yen, down from the record high of 65,000 yen for the July–August period. The decline is driven by a fall in jet fuel prices, which had spiked due to turmoil in the Middle East, and surcharges on routes other than North America and Europe will also be reduced. The surcharge is calculated based on the average jet fuel market price and exchange rate over the most recent two months.

ANA and JAL Post Record Revenue for April–June Quarter, but Profits Fall on Higher Fuel Costs

Japan's two major airlines have released their consolidated results for the April–June quarter of fiscal 2026. Both ANA Holdings and Japan Airlines achieved record-high revenue, but profits declined due to soaring fuel costs amid worsening conditions in the Middle East. ANA Holdings' revenue rose 22.6 percent year on year to 672.7 billion yen, while Japan Airlines' revenue increased 11.2 percent to 523.7 billion yen. Both carriers secured double-digit growth in international passenger revenue, but net profit fell sharply — down 15.4 percent at ANA Holdings and down 80.2 percent at Japan Airlines. At a press conference, Japan Airlines Senior Vice President Yuji Saito said that fuel surcharges are likely to start declining gradually from very high levels from September onward.

ANA Holdings Maintains Full-Year Forecast as First-Quarter Operating Profit Falls 43.5%

ANA Holdings reported first-quarter results for the fiscal year ending March 2027, with revenue rising 22.6% year-on-year to 672.7 billion yen, but operating profit slumped 43.5% to 20.7 billion yen.
