European Markets Rise on Earnings and Economic Data
European stock markets closed higher on Friday as mostly encouraging earnings updates and decent economic data helped offset concerns about Middle East tensions. The pan European Stoxx 600 climbed 0.31%, Germany's DAX moved up 0.69%, France's CAC 40 gained 0.17%, and the UK's FTSE 100 ended 0.31% up. Weak U.S. jobs data showing a drop of 23,000 jobs in July against expectations of a 70,000 gain raised hopes the Federal Reserve will not hike interest rates soon. In corporate news, SAP, Scout24, Infineon, Siemens and BMW gained 2% to 4% in Germany, while Daimler Truck Holding shed nearly 3% despite reporting a bottom line of EUR1.457 billion, up from EUR277 million a year earlier. Allianz closed lower by about 1.6% after second-quarter earnings fell to EUR2.595 billion from EUR2.841 billion, and Munich RE dropped 1.4% even as net profit rose to €2.211 billion from €2.085 billion.

SpaceX to Join Nasdaq 100 on July 7 in Record Time After IPO
SpaceX will join the Nasdaq 100 on July 7, just 15 trading days after its initial public offering, setting a record as the fastest index inclusion in the benchmark's history. The company listed on the Nasdaq on June 12, pricing shares at $135 per share and raising roughly $75 billion in the largest IPO ever, with an initial valuation of $1.77 trillion. SpaceX is the first company to benefit from a Nasdaq rule that fast-tracks large new IPOs into the index, requiring only 15 trading days of eligibility. Index funds like the Invesco QQQ Trust must buy SpaceX shares before markets open on July 7, which analysts expect will drive near-term demand. The stock surged nearly 19% on its debut day, closing at $161, but has since pulled back to near $148, while Allianz has raised concerns that the current valuation may outpace near-term fundamentals.

Allianz Commercial flags rising shipping risks in key maritime corridors
Allianz Commercial, part of Allianz, is highlighting rising geopolitical risks for global shipping tied to disruptions in key maritime corridors, with a focus on security concerns in major chokepoints including the closure and mining of the Strait of Hormuz, affecting vessels and cargo worth billions. The company is reassessing how it concentrates exposure in corridors where vessel and cargo values can quickly stack up into the tens of billions of dollars, which may feed into revised pricing, tighter wording in marine and specialty policies, and closer aggregation limits. The increased attention to security risk could influence how Allianz prices marine policies, structures coverage, and weighs accumulations of vessel and cargo values in sensitive regions. Investors watching Allianz may want to track how the company discusses geopolitical risk, insured values, and potential claims exposure in upcoming risk reports and management commentary.

HSBC in talks to sell Singapore insurance unit to Allianz for up to US$2b
HSBC Holdings is in talks to sell its Singapore insurance business, HSBC Life Singapore, to Allianz SE. The potential sale, valued at up to US$2 billion, is part of a review of its insurance operations in the region, while the bank reaffirmed its commitment to growing in Singapore. Management has framed Singapore as a priority hub for wealth management and wholesale banking, and exiting the capital-intensive insurance unit could free up resources for fee-rich advisory, asset management, and corporate banking. The disposal would align HSBC more closely with peers that lean on capital-light businesses in key Asian hubs, and letting Allianz take over the insurance platform may help preserve customer continuity through partnerships while reducing operational complexity. Investors are watching whether a binding deal is confirmed, the final transaction value, and how proceeds might be used alongside the planned redemption of £1 billion senior notes in 2026.
