Cathay General Bancorp Faces Revenue and EPS Growth Concerns

Cathay General Bancorp has outperformed the S&P 500 by 17.5% over the past six months, with its stock price rising 25.5% to $62.51, but analysts highlight three reasons for caution. The bank's revenue grew at a compounded annual rate of just 6.9% over the last five years, falling short of sector benchmarks, while net interest income expanded at an even slower 6.5% annualized rate, signaling soft demand. Earnings per share increased by only 8.7% annually over the same period, reflecting limited profit growth. The stock currently trades at 1.3 times forward price-to-book, a valuation deemed reasonable but not compelling, leading analysts to suggest a dominant aerospace company with a strong M&A track record as a more attractive alternative.
