UK spirits group Distil has appointed former Diageo executive David Smith as its new CEO, effective 17 August. The move is part of a broader board restructuring that will see executive chairman Don Goulding retire and step down on 14 August, with Philip Naughton taking over as non-executive chairman on the same date. Smith brings more than 25 years of drinks industry experience, including five years as executive chairman and CEO at English whisky maker Fielden, and prior roles at Diageo and West Indies Rum Distillery. Distil, owner of Blackwoods gin and vodka, recently warned of an immediate short-term funding need after fourth-quarter revenue fell significantly below forecast, with half-year revenue to 30 September 2025 down 20% to £313,000. The company also appointed Fortitude Drinks as its new UK distributor, ending its agreement with Global Brands.
