Douglas Group closes 31 stores, warns of more shutdowns

Douglas Group closed 31 stores in the first nine months of fiscal 2026, up from 12 a year earlier, and warned that more closures are likely as it shifts focus to e-commerce. The German beauty retailer, founded in 1821 and operating about 1,970 stores across Europe, reported group sales fell 2% year over year to €987.8 million in the third quarter, with like-for-like store sales down 6.5% and adjusted EBITDA down 19.4%. CEO Sander van der Laan said the company will continue reviewing locations based on profitability and customer traffic, while investing more in digital and omnichannel services. Douglas confirmed its full-year guidance but faces weak demand in Germany, France, and the Netherlands, which account for about 60% of its business.
