Nasdaq-listed MARA Holdings sold 23,093 BTC for about 1.6 billion dollars in the first half of 2026. In the first quarter, when sales were concentrated, it sold roughly 1.5 billion dollars worth of BTC, using the proceeds to repurchase over 1 billion dollars in face value of convertible notes maturing in 2030 and 2031, and to reduce its credit facility by 200 million dollars. The company had traditionally held mined BTC for the long term, but starting in 2025 it began selling to secure operating funds, and in 2026 it changed its policy to allow selling held BTC as needed. As of the end of June, it held 35,577 BTC, with a reported valuation of approximately 2.1 billion dollars.
