BP warns of looming oil glut and cuts 700 jobs, indicating oversupply concerns.

BP is warning of a potential oversupply of oil and gas and plans to cut 700 non-frontline jobs. The FTSE 100 giant told staff that the current tightness in the oil market was unlikely to last, with a possible surplus of more than five million barrels per day if the Strait of Hormuz fully reopens. The redundancies will affect about 8 percent of positions in production and operations, including a 20 percent reduction in senior leaders. The cuts come despite elevated profits across the industry, with rival Shell reporting profits more than doubled to almost 10 billion dollars. BP is set to disclose its latest financial results next Tuesday.
