Ford Motor CompanyBYD overtook Ford in global sales, pushing Ford down to seventh place.
BYD has overtaken Ford Motor Company in global automotive sales, recording 4.6 million vehicles sold to become the world's sixth-largest automaker. The Chinese electric vehicle maker's 7.7% sales growth last year outpaced every automaker ranked ahead of it, and CEO Wang Chuanfu told shareholders that BYD plans to become the number one automaker globally in scale within five years. Toyota currently holds the top spot with 11.3 million vehicles sold in 2025, more than double BYD's volume. BYD's momentum is fueled by new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technologies that debuted in March, with demand for upgraded models already exceeding battery production capacity.
