New passenger car registrations in Europe rose 13.1% year-on-year in June to 1,407,332 units, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, with electric vehicles and Chinese brands driving growth. Battery electric vehicles surged 51%, plug-in hybrids rose 22.7%, and hybrids increased 17.1%, with these three categories accounting for over 80% of the total. In contrast, internal combustion engine vehicles struggled, with petrol car sales down 12.2% and diesel down 16.9%. Among Chinese brands, BYD, Chery Automobile, and Leapmotor saw increases of roughly three to six times, while SAIC Motor and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group rose over 50% and 11% respectively.
