Exxon Mobil CorpExxonMobil's Cypriot gas deposits declared commercially viable; plans to pipe to Egypt for export by 2033.

Natural gas could start flowing by 2033 from two undersea deposits discovered by ExxonMobil off Cyprus, a senior executive said Tuesday. The deposits, Glaucus and Pegasus in Block 10 of Cyprus' exclusive economic zone, together hold an estimated 7 trillion cubic feet of gas. ExxonMobil and partner QatarEnergy signed a deal with Cyprus declaring the deposits commercially viable, and the most likely option is piping the gas to existing processing facilities in Egypt for liquefaction and export. The consortium plans additional drilling at Pegasus around the end of this year and is interested in exploring an adjacent block on the southwestern corner of the EEZ. Cyprus is positioning itself as a new European energy hub, with other consortiums also holding exploration licenses in its waters.
