FDA approval expands Stelara's indication to pediatric ulcerative colitis, a regulatory win for J&J.

The US FDA has expanded the use of Johnson & Johnson's Stelara (ustekinumab) to pediatric patients two years and older with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis. Approval was based on study data on Stelara in ulcerative colitis in adults, pharmacokinetic and safety data from pediatric patients between two and 17 years old, and additional data from a 52-week study in 112 pediatric patients between 3 and 17 years old with the condition. Johnson & Johnson received Orphan Drug designation in the indication. In April, the FDA approved Stelara for Crohn's disease in the same age group.
