U.S. EV sales fell 4.2% in Q2 due to fading incentives and softening demand.

General Motors is shifting focus to energy storage as its U.S. electric vehicle sales continue to struggle. Second-quarter U.S. sales fell 4.2% to just under 715,000 vehicles, dragged down by EVs amid fading federal incentives and softening domestic demand. The automaker is leveraging existing assets to enter the rapidly expanding energy storage market, which could reach a total addressable market of at least $250 billion by the early 2030s. While the energy strategy will take time to materialize, GM remains the top-selling automaker of SUVs and trucks, and its stock trades at a single-digit forward P/E ratio after falling more than 5% in 2026.
