TotalEnergies SECEO says normal operations could be restored within six months if strait remains open, implying increased oil supply and lower prices

The interim peace deal signed by US President Donald Trump and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to trigger the restart of oil production across the Middle East on a scale so large it will be visible from space. Saudi Arabia and the UAE have kept enough pressure in their fields to potentially return to prewar production rates within two weeks, while Saudi supertankers have been waiting on standby to pick up crude. Within hours of the deal, three Saudi supertankers emerged outside the Strait of Hormuz, though traffic slowed on Friday. TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne told the French parliament that normal operations could be restored within six months if the strait remains open. The reopening could lower energy prices and ease inflation fears, but challenges remain, including demining operations and the need for shipowners to risk entering the strait.
