Krung Thai Bank Public Company LimitedKTB's research center assesses inflation may exceed target, but impact on bank is mixed as higher inflation could lead to rate hikes but also economic uncertainty.

Krungthai COMPASS Research Center assesses that for the remainder of 2026, average inflation will be above the midpoint of the inflation target range of 2%, pressured by the prolonged and highly volatile conflict in the Middle East, keeping global energy prices persistently high. Most recently, Dubai crude oil prices rose from 68 US dollars per barrel before the Houthi attacks to 76 US dollars per barrel as of August 4, 2026. Meanwhile, inflationary pressures are increasingly passing through to several categories in the core inflation basket, with core inflation in July 2026 at 1.34%, accelerating from 1.23% in June, driven by prepared food prices rising 3.25%. Headline inflation in July stood at 1.95%, down from 2.42% in June and below analyst expectations of 2.55%. Domestic energy prices remain higher than the same period last year, for instance, retail diesel prices were 35.94 baht per liter, up from 31.94 baht per liter in July last year, pushing energy inflation up by 12.43%.
