Management aims to keep the dividend payout within its targeted range of 50% to 60%. The company plans to invest nearly $7 billion during the 2026-2030 period, averaging approximately $1.42 billion annually, to strengthen generation capacity and infrastructure at Idaho Power. Nvidia CEO Huang Apologizes as Data-Center Backlash Threatens 12 Gigawatts
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made a rare admission that the AI industry failed to engage communities early enough as America's data-center construction accelerated, telling CBS, "We're sorry we didn't come talk to you sooner." Huang said the buildout happened so rapidly and across so much of the country that companies did not adequately engage residents before moving in, and he acknowledged bipartisan opposition to the projects. Residents have pushed back over electricity consumption, water usage, noise and pressure on utility bills, and S&P Global recently estimated that protests have put roughly 12 gigawatts of proposed U.S. data-center capacity at risk, making local approval a potential bottleneck rather than just a political controversy. The exposure matters for Nvidia, which generated a record $89 billion in Data Center revenue in its fiscal second quarter, up 117% year over year, against total revenue of $96.2 billion, and expects third-quarter revenue of roughly $108 billion as Blackwell deployments continue and its next-generation Vera Rubin platform ramps into production. Huang's comments highlight a different kind of capacity constraint: Nvidia can build increasingly powerful chips, but customers still need electricity, land, permits and community acceptance to install them.
Talen Energy Shares Fall 33.3% as Earnings Miss Tests Cash Flow Story
Talen Energy Corporation shares have dropped 33.3% over the past 12 weeks, compared with an 18.2% decline for the Zacks sub-industry, as weaker earnings signals test the company's improving cash flow story. Second-quarter 2026 adjusted earnings of 16 cents per share missed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3.20 by 95%, while revenues of $747 million rose 18.6% year over year but came in 5.8% below the $793 million consensus mark. Adjusted EBITDA climbed to $374 million from $90 million a year earlier, and adjusted free cash flow improved to $212 million from a negative $78 million, with first-half 2026 adjusted EBITDA reaching $847 million and adjusted free cash flow totaling $562 million. Talen carried about $9.7 billion of total principal debt at June 30, 2026, and had about $1.9 billion of liquidity at July 31, including $525 million of unrestricted cash. The PPL discount to PJM West Hub widened to roughly $20 per megawatt-hour after historically remaining below $10, while Talen's long-term deal with Amazon Web Services allows the Susquehanna nuclear plant to supply up to 1,920 megawatts through 2042, alongside about 4 gigawatts of potential data-center sites and more than 2 gigawatts of new generation capacity still in development. TLN currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
