Novo Nordisk A/SEuropean Commission approved oral Wegovy for obesity, expanding market access.

Novo Nordisk shares gained 3% after the European Commission approved a once-daily oral version of Wegovy for treating adults with obesity and at least one weight-related comorbidity. The approval, which follows a positive CHMP opinion in May 2026, also includes a 7.2 mg single-dose Wegovy injection pen. The oral pill becomes the first GLP-1 receptor agonist available in tablet form for weight management across the EU, marking the fifth regulatory authorization after the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. The decision was based on the phase III OASIS program, where patients on oral semaglutide achieved an average weight loss of approximately 17% versus about 3% for placebo. Despite the positive news, Novo Nordisk faces headwinds including U.S. pricing pressure and softer injectable GLP-1 prescription trends, and year to date the stock has lost 0.6% against the industry's 8.7% growth.
