Meanwhile, the United States is preparing to impose import tariffs of 10 to 12.5% on 60 trading partner countries, with Thailand, Vietnam, and China facing a 12.5% tariff, while Mexico, the United Kingdom, Canada, and India will be subject to 10%. The number of Americans filing initial claims for unemployment benefits fell more than expected to 187,000, the lowest level since September 1969, reflecting a still-strong labor market. Japan's core inflation rate rose 1.6% in June, accelerating for the first time since March due to the impact of higher oil prices. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose more than 4 basis points to 4.699% after the surge in oil prices fueled inflation concerns. Tesla shares fell 14.5% and Alphabet dropped 7.1% after both companies signaled increased investment in artificial intelligence, wiping out roughly $200 billion from Tesla's market value in a single day and around $300 billion from Alphabet. Intel forecast third-quarter revenue of $15.8 billion to $16.8 billion, above analyst expectations, and raised its capital expenditure forecast for this year to $20 billion.
