PTT reported on oil market conditions for the week of August 17 to 21, 2026. Brent crude rose by 6.52 US dollars to 88.24 dollars per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate rose by 5.09 dollars to 82.45 dollars per barrel, and Dubai crude rose by 8.85 dollars to 88.61 dollars per barrel. A key supporting factor came from the United States preparing to impose severe economic pressure measures on Iran as soon as possible this week, after negotiations remained deadlocked. Previously, the United States had sanctioned more than 1,000 individuals, vessels, and aircraft, and frozen digital assets linked to Iran worth more than 500 billion US dollars. In addition, the Yemeni Red Sea port of Mocha halted operations after being attacked by Houthi forces with more than 25 missiles between August 9 and 15. Kpler estimated that only two vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on July 14, neither of them crude oil tankers, compared with more than 130 vessels per day before the US-Iran war.
