Resource Works welcomed the Canada-British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement and a new west coast oil pipeline proposal as a landmark day for Canada’s resource economy. The agreement, signed by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier David Eby, aims to unlock more than $200 billion in new investment and includes accelerating four LNG projects, investing $500 million to expand the Red Chris copper mine, providing $3.9 billion for the North Coast Transmission Line, and expanding Roberts Bank Terminal at the Port of Vancouver. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announced that Trans Mountain Corporation and Pembina Pipeline will partner with the province to build a million-barrel-per-day oil pipeline from Bruderheim to the southern B.C. coast at an estimated cost of $35 billion to $44 billion, with the project expected to be listed as a project of national interest by October 1, 2026. Resource Works President and CEO Stewart Muir said the combined impact represents an unprecedented partnership among the federal government, provinces, Indigenous peoples, and the private sector, and that the pipeline proposal is the clearest signal yet that Alberta and British Columbia are building together.
