Blockchain.com and NYSE Reach Preliminary Agreement to Offer Tokenized US Stocks and ETFs

Blockchain.com, a crypto asset services company, and the New York Stock Exchange announced on September 23 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at providing access to tokenized US-listed stocks and ETFs. Under the plan, Blockchain.com users would be able to trade tokenized US stocks and ETFs through a digital alternative trading system that NYSE is developing, and if realized, this would enable trading unbound by regular market hours. In January, NYSE announced the development of a trading and settlement platform for tokenized securities supporting 24/7 trading, fractional share trading, stablecoin funding, and instant on-chain settlement. The partnership also includes the mutual provision of market data, with ICE Data Services, a unit of NYSE parent company Intercontinental Exchange, set to provide Blockchain.com's crypto asset market data and analytics to its customers, while Blockchain.com plans to integrate some ICE and NYSE data feeds into its app to deliver real-time stock information to more than 44 million verified accounts. The two companies did not disclose the timing of the service launch, the stocks and ETFs to be covered, or the financial terms of the agreement, and the launch of the service is contingent on the rollout of NYSE's digital ATS and the necessary regulatory approvals.

MoonPay to Buy North Capital in $60M All-Stock Tokenization Deal

MoonPay has agreed to acquire private-markets infrastructure platform North Capital in an all-stock deal worth more than $60 million, as the crypto payments firm pushes further into tokenized assets. The transaction, announced Wednesday, will make North Capital a wholly owned subsidiary of MoonPay once it closes, subject to regulatory approval and other customary closing conditions. Salt Lake City-based North Capital provides technology and regulated financial services for private securities issuers, fund managers, intermediaries and investors, and its platform has handled more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume. Its businesses include SEC-registered broker-dealers, a transfer agent, an investment adviser and PPEX, a registered alternative trading system with more than 1,250 approved assets available for secondary-market trading. MoonPay CEO and founder Ivan Soto-Wright said all financial markets are becoming more technology-driven, but the infrastructure supporting them is still fragmented across different tech stacks, providers and workflows. MoonPay has been expanding beyond its traditional crypto payments business, launching Trade in May and acquiring Solana trading infrastructure provider DFlow and crypto security startup Sodot earlier this year.

BlackRock Says AI Boom Could Fuel New Crypto Demand

BlackRock says the artificial intelligence boom could fuel fresh demand for crypto. The financial giant, which manages roughly $10 trillion in assets, made the assessment in a new report on the intersection of AI and digital assets. The firm argues that AI-driven computing and data needs could create new use cases that pull more investors toward crypto markets. BlackRock has already moved deeper into the space through its spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund, the largest of its kind. The report does not attach specific figures or timelines to the projected demand.
