STMicroelectronics N.V.Launches new compact 3D LiDAR module with advanced features for edge AI applications.

STMicroelectronics has launched the VL53L9, a fully integrated direct Time-of-Flight 3D LiDAR module that delivers 2,268-zone resolution, a 54° × 42° field of view, and a detection range from 5 centimeters to 9 meters at up to 100 frames per second. The module combines proprietary BSI SPAD technology with metasurface optics and dual diffuse infrared illumination, eliminating dead zones and reducing motion artifacts while providing both 3D depth and 2D infrared images. Onboard processing and a dedicated power-management IC allow edge AI applications to run on small microcontrollers with low computational requirements, targeting robotics, industrial automation, smart buildings, AR/VR, and healthcare. Housed in a 12.8 mm × 6.1 mm × 4.6 mm reflowable package, the Class-1 eye-safe module supports 1.2 V and 3.3 V supplies and MIPI or I3C interfaces. Mass production begins in early July 2026, with samples and volume shipments available globally.
