USA Rare Earth has commissioned a hydrometallurgical demonstration facility in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, with initial production of separated heavy rare earth oxides targeted for the third quarter of 2026. The facility is running parallel campaigns to de-risk processing flowsheets for ore from the Round Top deposit, third-party mixed rare earth carbonates, and recycled magnet swarf, with data supporting the Round Top Definitive Feasibility Study due in late 2026 and a digital twin project with the US Department of Energy. CEO Barbara Humpton stated the plant is central to building a fully integrated, non-Chinese rare earth platform, from feedstock to magnet production, and will provide data and proven chemistry for commercial-scale deployment. The automated facility employs 28 technical experts and positions the company as one of the few Western producers capable of delivering commercial-quality dysprosium, terbium, and yttrium, which will supply its subsidiary Less Common Metals for permanent magnet manufacturing.
