Volkswagen AGArticle reports Volkswagen considering massive job cuts and plant closures as part of a cost-cutting plan to reduce indirect costs by 11 billion euros.
Volkswagen is reportedly considering a much deeper restructuring that could eliminate up to 100,000 jobs and lead to the closure of several factories. CEO Oliver Blume outlined the plans during a management board meeting this week, according to Manager Magazin. The proposed measures would more than triple the roughly 28,000 departures already agreed upon and could affect nearly 15% of Volkswagen's global workforce of about 657,000 employees. The report said Volkswagen is also considering shutting four German plants in the medium term, including Audi's Neckarsulm facility and Volkswagen factories in Hanover, Zwickau and Emden. In addition, management is targeting 11 billion euros, or 12.5 billion dollars, in overhead cost reductions by the end of the decade.
