Teikoku Databank announced on the 31st that 195 major food manufacturers plan to raise prices in September on 4,923 food and beverage products, mainly for household use, about three times the number from the same month last year. Due to rising crude oil prices from the worsening Middle East situation, a weak yen, and higher logistics costs, this will be the largest number for a single month in 2026 and the fourth largest on record, following April 2023. For the full year 2026, the number already identified is 19,083 items, making it certain that the total will exceed 20,000 items for the second consecutive year. By category, "seasonings" such as mayonnaise and soup bases lead with 1,959 items, followed by "processed foods" including frozen foods and surimi products with 1,848 items. Kikkoman Foods will raise prices on a total of 107 household products, including "Itsudemo Shinsen Shiboritate Nama Shoyu" (450 ml) and "Koi Dashi Hon Tsuyu" (500 ml).
