Furuno Unveils SOLION-100 Terminal for Iridium GMDSS

Furuno Electric Co., Ltd. has announced the SOLION-100, a new maritime safety terminal built on Iridium Certus 100 technology that integrates GMDSS, Ship Security Alert System, and Long-Range Identification and Tracking capabilities into a single platform for newbuild and retrofit vessels. The terminal, announced alongside Iridium Communications Inc., leverages Iridium's low-Earth orbit satellite network, which has provided GMDSS services since 2020 and offers global coverage including polar regions. The SOLION-100 is expected to be commercially available for retrofit applications in late 2026, with newbuild availability following in 2027. Furuno's Kiyoshi Furuno emphasized the company's commitment to maritime safety, while Iridium's Wouter Deknopper highlighted the partnership's benefit to shipowners and shipyards.
