EGCO closes deal to sell 49% stake in Ban Pong-Khlong Luang power plants to J-POWER, recognizing 2,765 million baht in revenue

EGCO, or Electricity Generating Public Company Limited, announced the closing of a deal to sell a 49% stake in Ban Pong Utility Company Limited, or BPU, and Khlong Luang Utility Company Limited, or KLU, to international strategic partner J-POWER Holdings (Thailand) Company Limited, or J-POWER, resulting in immediate recognition of approximately 2,765 million baht in revenue. The two power plants are combined-cycle facilities with total installed capacities of 256 megawatts and 122 megawatts respectively, backed by 25-year long-term power purchase agreements with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, as well as agreements to sell electricity and steam to industrial customers in the area. The share transfer and payment were completed on September 10, 2026. After the transaction, EGCO Group remains the major shareholder with a 51% stake and continues to manage both power plants, keeping BPU and KLU as subsidiaries of EGCO Group. Thawatchai Samranwanich, President of EGCO Group, said the closing of this deal marks a key success in driving the Asset Recycling strategy under the POWER4 strategic framework, helping strengthen the financial structure and enhance the ability to allocate capital for investment in new projects with higher returns, while supporting a 30,000 million baht investment budget from the PDP 2026 plan, Direct PPA projects, BESS projects, and the expansion of natural gas and renewable power businesses overseas, especially in the United States.

Regulatory Commission Member Yamaoka Conducts On-Site Inspection of J-Power's Oma Nuclear Plant, Confirms Seam Removal

Yamaoka Koshun, a member of the Nuclear Regulation Authority, conducted an on-site inspection on the 10th of the Oma nuclear power plant under construction in Oma, Aomori Prefecture, being built by Electric Power Development Co., known as J-Power. During the review, the key issue has been whether the thin clay layers known as "seams" widely distributed across the site are active faults, and the company is proceeding with work to remove seams around important facilities. Yamaoka inspected the already excavated areas and confirmed that the remaining seams had not been weathered, as company officials examined the color and hardness of the bedrock above and below the seams. Yamaoka told reporters, "I was able to confirm that the weathered portions have been properly removed."

GULF reports record-high core profit of 12.332 billion baht in Q2 2026, up 74%

Gulf Development Public Company Limited reported record-high operating profit of 12.332 billion baht in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 74% from the same period last year. Total revenue was 50.294 billion baht, up 24%. The main growth came from the energy business, both natural gas-fired power plants and renewable energy. IPP power plants under the IPD group saw higher profits from increased electricity sales volumes driven by the country's electricity demand. Meanwhile, solar power plants in operation increased to 12 projects with total capacity of 1,129 megawatts, resulting in a 153% rise in profit for this segment to 402 million baht. In addition, the company recognized a share of profit from AIS of 4.549 billion baht, up 31%, and dividend income from KBANK of 2.842 billion baht, as well as a gain from the sale of a 51% stake in the Pak Lay hydropower project to J-Power of 1.928 billion baht. As a result, EBITDA for the quarter was 18.997 billion baht, up 41%, while net profit attributable to the parent company was 12.446 billion baht, down from the previous year which included an extraordinary gain from the merger with INTUCH. The Chief Financial Officer expects total revenue and EBITDA for 2026 to grow 12 to 15%, with approximately 700 megawatts of additional power plant projects to commence operations in the second half of the year.

J-POWER's ordinary profit forecast for the March 2027 fiscal year rises 1.6% from the previous week

The consensus forecast for J-POWER's ordinary profit for the March 2027 fiscal year rose 1.6% from the previous week's 113.98 billion yen to 115.817 billion yen. Compared with the prior-year result, the forecast was revised upward from a 28.1% decline to a 26.9% decline. Compared with the company's own forecast of 125 billion yen, the current consensus forecast is bearish. The rating consensus fell from 2.8 to 2.7.
